Emma Crawford was a woman who moved to Manitou Springs in the late 19th century, died of tuberculosis, and was buried on top a nearby mountain, which she is believed to haunt. Since the mid ’90s, the town (a short drive from nearby Colorado Springs) honors her on the weekend before Halloween with ghost tours, a wake party, and the annual Emma Crawford Coffin Race and Parade, when locals and tourists alike gather to watch processions of elaborately decorated coffins roll down the town’s main street. If you have a slightly macabre sense of humor, this is a Halloween event you won’t want to miss.
